About

We're old. We have time. We like trees.

If you are looking for a Master in the Art of Bonsai, this is not your website. If you are looking for a relative novice who is learning and growing in the art, then yes — this is the place for you.

Follow along on this wonderful journey as we learn this amazing hobby together. Innocent trees will be sacrificed in the pursuit of knowledge — we'll do our best to keep it to a minimum.

Why this site exists

Most bonsai content online is aimed at people who are already five or ten years in — or at people who are ready to pay for a thousand-dollar tree to start with. That's not us, and it's probably not you either.

So this is for the other folks. Garage bonsai. Garden-center junipers. The "I've killed two trees and I'm not giving up" crowd. If that's you — welcome.

What you'll find here: plain-English posts on buying, watering, soil, repotting, wiring, overwintering, and the long list of ways to kill a tree by accident. No clickbait. No "10 secret techniques." Just the stuff that actually works for hobbyists on a budget.

A note on affiliate links

Sometimes we link to tools or books we actually use. Some of those are affiliate links. If you click and buy, we make a few cents — it doesn't cost you anything extra, and it helps keep this site free. We will never recommend something we haven't personally used.
